Aunty Bea Edwards – Manager of the Winja Ulupna Women’s Recovery Centre with her beautiful artwork ‘Talking of The Land’

“In this painting I have placed the male and female bird totems of the Gunia Kurnia people. The blue wren representing the women and the Emu wren representing the men. These are the totems of my Grandfather’s country and in this painting represent the ancient peoples of the past, the hands with the symbol of the river to ocean people represent the handing down of knowledge from the ancient to today. In the other corners I have placed the camps with tracks leading from and to representing the people of the land and visitors to our land in respect to all. I have placed the flowering yellow gum to represent all new life born akin to the land. And surrounded all, with the patterns of the land out of respect to all people of the land.”
